What is the difference between traumatology and orthopedics

Traumatology is the discipline of medicine that is responsible for the treatment of traumatic lesions of bones, muscles, joints and tendons. These discomforts can be congenital or acquired in the course of life by different situations to which any person is exposed.

While orthopedics is the medical branch that develops and exercised in conjunction with traumatology to correct or avoid deformations or traumas of the musculoskeletal system.

Exams for the diagnosis of trauma

- Simple radiographs and tomographies: they are evidence that detect or rule out traumatic or degenerative lesions of the bones.

- Magnetic resonance and ultrasound: They are auxiliary exams that serve to observe in detail the lesions of muscle and ligamentary structures.

- Bone densitometry: it is an indicated medical examination to detect the loss of calcium in the bones and osteoporosis.

- Electromyography: It is a test that is used to detect nerves.
